Synthesis of 2-bromo-3-methyl-5-arylthiophenes (3a–k) and 2,5-diaryl-3-methyl thiophenes (3l–p). Conditions: (i) 1 (128 mg, 0.5 mmol, 1 eq), 2 (0.55 mmol, 1.1 eq), Pd(PPh₃)₄ (14.5 mg, 2.5 mol%), K₃PO₄ (212 mg, 1.0 mmol, 2 eq), 1,4-dioxane (2.5 ml), H₂O (0.625 ml), 12 h, 90 °C under argon. (ii) 1 (128 mg, 0.5 mmol, 1 eq), 2 (1.25 mmol, 2.5 eq,), Pd(PPh₃)₄ (34.6 mg, 6 mol%), K₃PO₄ (424 mg, 2.0 mmol, 4 eq), 1,4-dioxane (2.5 ml), H₂O (0.625 ml), 12 h, 90 °C under argon
