Illustration of the basic processes that may affect the dynamics of monomers. In this example, the monomer p1,0 is taken and transferred into the monomer p2,0 by chemical modification. p2,0 splits up into the monomers p3,0 and p4,0 (partial hydrolysis). p4,0 forms a trimer (compartment c = 3) with the dimer (compartment c = 1) constituted by the monomers 5 and 6. The trimer undergoes a chemical modification of its subunit 4 which is converted into the monomer 7. The trimer containing the monomers 4, 6 and 7 can be either degraded or decomposed into its monomeric subunits p4,0, p6,0, and p7,0.
